Throwback Thursday - the Evil Queen and I

We honeymooned at Disney and one of the highlights of the trip was attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. We got to trick or treat like little kids again and it was neat seeing the park done up with "scary" decorations.

But for me, this was the best part.

In case you were unaware, the Evil Queen is one of my favorite characters... as you can see from my shirt.

I have to stop

I came across a pin the other day: "Slow progress is better than no progress." Sometimes you need a little reminder.

I've always been hard on myself - in everything. I've been calling myself a recovering perfectionist for years, though sometimes that perfect person rears her little head and messes with my brain.

I've been arguing with myself that I'm not further along. I thought I'd be fully running a 5k by now, not running/walking it. I thought I'd have lost more weight and more inches.

But then, I shut out the stupid voice in my head and I realize that every time I step into these sneakers, and run, it's more than I've ever been able to do, ever.

And, every time I go for a run, it's for longer and faster. I can run with Merida and she tires out before I do.

I'm still at the same weight, but my thigh cellulite is gone. My thighs don't rub together as much as they did before I started running. My calves are a little thicker, which means my boots have a tough time zipping up. My butt is better looking, not quite "buns of steel", but better looking than it used to be. My muffin top has deflated a bit more, but not quite gone.

I have a way to go still to be able to handle a 10k. Right now I'm at 6.5k - running/walking. Little by little, I'll get there.

Sleepy little one

I took this video after our day at Woofstock back in May. Both corgis were knocked out!

You can see her little ears working even after she starts drifting into dreamland.

Big feet, little feet

The other day, fellow fluff and haiku master: Jasper Islington posted a picture of his foot in his Dad's palm. You can see it here.

This got me thinking to do something similar for my two.

You can guess who owns this paw. Apparently, he's part corgi and part Grinch.

Gimli also sports fine feathering on the back of his feet. When he runs in the wind, he looks very 70s era. Don't worry though, he went to the groomers today and all that extra hair is now gone.

You can see the difference in sizes between the two.

Merida has such dainty little feet and still with the pink pads underneath too :)
When she runs, she almost prances around like an elegant Princess.

3 things - October edition

Things going on in our house for October.

1. We are back. There was a death in the family, so things have been out of sorts around here. It came after a long illness, so I've been "off" for a while, as things started to deteriorate.

2. Fall is here in full swing. I have some cute pictures of the corgis in the leaves. I'm contemplating updating the banner picture on the blog and one of the Fall pictures might do.

It's also Halloween next week and Merida has a lovely costume. I'll take a few and post them here.

3. Running is going well. I'm able to run/walk a 6k now. I've been running early in the mornings and having mixed success with the cooler weather. It's getting easier and I think I'm becoming a runner. On the days where I don't run, I feel like something's missing. I don't know if I'm ready to move beyond a 10k, but, never say never.

It's odd, though, in all this I've not lost weight. My legs are stronger so I feel that's the reason my weight hasn't changed... at least I hope that's the reason.

Going dark

The blog is going dark for a few days this week. Don't worry, we're all fine.

Flat Corgi Friday - Sliding by

I don't know if actual corgis would enjoy a water slide. They'd probably try to drink all of the water on the way down!

Rumble rumble

As I've mentioned before, I run in the wee hours of the morning. It's cooler, (though now it's getting chillier), there's no sun, and I don't have to worry about the neighborhood laughing looking at me.

The trouble is, though, for part of my run I have to cross a country road. It's not well lit because you're at the point in the road where the driver is coming from dark area into a subdivision with street lights. For all the driver can see in such a short distance, I could be a deer, a rabbit or a speed bump.

Last week, I came upon the intersection and was looking to cross. I was fortunate that I was only walking, so I had time to stop and take in my surroundings. I heard a rumble coming down the street. I looked towards the rumble and there was no lights, but the rumble remained. It wasn't getting stronger, but it wasn't going away either.

I decided not to cross just yet and instead changed direction to run on the sidewalk parallel to the street. Eventually, the street brightened and a tractor trailer went by, probably coming from one of the farms north of us.

Looking back, the experience reminded me of that scene from Pet Semetary, where the family is playing in a field when the little boy runs towards the road. They hear the rumbling of a truck, but they cannot get to the boy in time.

So, yeah, I think I'll take the long way and cross at the lights from now on.

6 years

Why is Gimli smiling?

a. He's at the park - just him and I and he's got as much freedom to roam as he pleases.
b. He always has a smile for me.
c. This past Saturday was his 6th gotcha day and he's happy to live in our crazy household where he's loved and kissed and hugged and scratched and cuddled and walked and fed and spoken to, and a host of other actions by a crazy lady, her cute husband, and a scrappy little sisfur.

All of the above.

I shall call her Shelob

"Already, years before, Gollum had beheld her, Sméagol who pried into all dark holes, and in past days he had bowed and worshiped her, and the darkness of her evil will walked through all the ways of his weariness beside him, cutting him off from light and from regret."

I found this while walking in the yard. I apologize for the blurriness, but it was as close as I dared, lest it jump on me.
