Wordless Wednesday - Spring?

Yes, it's a Wordless Wednesday on Friday, hence the words.

Wednesday was the first day of Spring.  This is what our backyard looks like on today... Friday.  We had a few centimeters of snow last night.  Luckily the sun melted the majority of it from the driveway and sidewalk, but there's still a great deal of snow left.

I am so ready for Spring.

Christmas Tree 2012

This year on the Christmas tree, we have a number of new ornaments.  If we keep this up, we're going to need a second, smaller tree to house them all!

Our first religious ornament. We picked this up at the Kathe Wolfahrt store in Rothenburg.

Our Rothenburg ornament along with the date.

I thought this rocking "horse" teddy was cute, so I grabbed him.

My new Maleficent ornament :)

My new Evil Queen ornament :)

Our Disneyland 2012 ornament.

Our stockings

Gimli's stocking.  It has 2 jingle bells on it and I cannot touch it without him running up and trying to see what's inside.

Lastly, our tree.  There's no angel at the top because our old one has fallen apart.  We haven't been able to find a suitable replacement.  Hopefully next year.

We've also put up garland and lights on the banister and around the windows downstairs.  It seems each year, we do a bit more.

I was also crafty enough to create a custom wreath!  Not to shabby huh?

I saw it on Pinterest and used the instructions found here: Ribbon Wreath Craft. A word of advice, if you're going to make this, be sure to purchase your ribbon from your local craft store by mid-November.  I had to go back to Michael's at the beginning of December to find a ribbon for the hanger portion and all the samples I had used were gone.

Next year, I want to do some doggie footprint ornaments.

Rain, rain everyday

"If you think it's going to rain, it will." - Clint Eastwood

It has been raining almost non-stop for the past week.  The ground is mush and water is stagnating under the river rocks in our front yard.  We haven't seen the sun in the same amount of time.  Gimli's walks have been, run out, pee, try and avoid walking even though Candy will pull Gimli along, then be so scared that he won't poo, then I turn around and head home.

And now Sandy or what's left of her is on her way to us.

This is what I see when I look out the window:

You can only see a portion of the large tree, but we are hoping it doesn't come down.

Where was all this rain in the middle of July when we had a heatwave and the grass in the yard turned brown and scratchy?  The gigantic weeds in our yard are surely enjoying this weather, someone has to.

Update:

I took Gimli for a walk around 5 pm and it was windy and cold.  You could hear the wind howling, so I'm sure it's going to be a very windy and rainy night.  I might even beg for Gimli to sleep in the bed with us.

Colorblind

This month, we'll have been in this house for 3 years.  This means we've been living with stark white walls all this time.  As I've mentioned before, we finally hired a painter to cover the entire downstairs, (except the powder and laundry room), and the staircase and upstairs hall.

We also traded out our sofa and coffee table for a new sofa and invisible coffee and end table.  The room is slowly coming together and what we have so far, I quite like.

This past weekend, Mike and I went looking for throw pillows and we purchased a few, though I still think we need more.  I picked up a lovely purple and gray one, which I plopped onto the love-seat and promptly forgot about.

Soon after, Mike and I were watching TV, when Gimli started to growl.  He stood with his head on the love-seat cushion and growled at the purple and gray pillow as if it was was a fluff monster coming to kill us all.

I thought I was the fluff monster?

Then, as quickly as he started growling, he stopped and went back to his antler.

So it has come to this, a colorblind dog is giving us decorating advice.

Pale green thumb

We aren't gardeners.

I don't have a good sense for plants.  After all, we received an "unkillable" orchid for Christmas and a few weeks later, it was headed for the trash.

This is one main reason we removed the grass from our front yard in favor of mulch, stones and a few hardy plants.  I'm happy to say these plants are doing well, so long as all you have to do is put down mulch and water them.

We also have a few little inhabitants in our front yard - a couple mice and a dwarf.  I think you may have seen them before.

One misty, moisty morning...

Last week, we had a foggy morning and I managed to take a few pictures around the house, enjoy!

Pre-Rockville

Starting last week and continuing into this week, we have had the landscapers working on our front and backyards.  Gimli is not pleased because he's been unable to play in either area for a week.  He can't even go out in the back for his daily lunchtime bask in the sun, poor thing I know!

Here are some before pictures and I'll have some during pictures up over the next day or so.

Any one else think Gimli looks like a stuffed animal?

Sadly the best and thickest grass is close to the house, which will be covered in concrete, boo!

Someday this will be concrete along with 2 or 3 slabs for stairs.
